In 1974, my late husband, Ron Henderson, and I opened the doors to Diane's School of Dance in the Northland. He and I had a goal of providing a family-oriented educational and instructional school where kids could express themselves. 41 years later, Diane’s School of Dance is still going strong with over 1,100 students, making us one of the largest schools in the country. I now assume more of a director’s role, and with the help of 20 faculty members and over 75 dance assistants, DSOD offers more than 30 educational dance classes a week, including tap, classical ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip-hop, and acrobatics. Here at DSOD, we believe dance training should also include life training that promotes poise, confidence, and discipline. With that positive philosophy in mind, we provide a nurturing environment where preschoolers through high school seniors can learn the basics of dance with a focus on fun!
However, while my main priority for my students has always been emphasizing the pure enjoyment of dancing, I have produced some serious alumni over the decades, including professional cheerleaders in the NFL, NBA, and MLS, Walt Disney World dancers, cruise ship entertainers, Broadway performers, and Radio City Rockettes.
We keep up to date in our instructional curriculum by regularly attending events, conferences, and conventions. The studio also presents an annual Christmas program at the dance studio and an annual recital at the Kansas City Music Hall where EVERYONE gets a chance to shine on the front row. Our priority at DSOD has always been and will always be to make sure our students know they are important members of our dance family by providing a loving and exciting learning environment where their personalities can shine through!
Thank you for being a part of DSOD,
