DSOD is thrilled to be continuing its tradition of excellence in dance education and instruction and is celebrating 44 years this year! Come join our family and see what our school is all about! We pride oursleves on providing a fun, safe, family-style learning atmosphere for all of our dancers. We believe dance training is life training and our students learn not only choreography, but valuable lessons that help them all throughout their lives. DSOD operates its dance year coinciding with the school year. Online enrollment for our 2017-2018 classes is now open. We begin our 2017-2018 classes on September 16th and will conclude our year with our dress rehearsal and dance recital at the Kansas City Music Hall on June 1st and 2nd, 2018.
Classes are offered for students 3-18 years old (preschoolers - high school seniors.) All dance classes, with the exception of hip hop, meet once a week. One-hour combination classes for three year olds-3rd graders consist of tap, ballet, jazz, and acrobatics. One-hour combination classes for 4th-12th graders consist of tap and jazz. One-hour jazz classes are offered to 6th-12th graders. One-hour ballet classes are offered to 4th-12th graders. Pointe classes are 30 minutes in length and are offered to 7th-12th grade DSOD ballet students. Hip hop is offered as a specialty class that meets several times throughout the year to 2nd-12th grade DSOD students who are enrolled in at least one other class. Adult jazz and hip hop specialty classes are offered several times throughout the year.
Our dance year, which starts annually in September and concludes in either May or June, consists of 36 weeks; 32 dance weeks which are divided into 4 quarters, and 4 additional vacation weeks (these are not missed classes). Tuition is paid quarterly. Discounts are offered to families with more than one child dancing and to families who have a child taking multiple classes. For your convenience, all of our enrollment is completed online. New students may enroll for classes by clicking "Account Access" at the top of this page. Follow the instructions for creating an account and then enroll for desired classes. Returning students simply need to log into their existing account to enroll for all classes. Once you have enrolled your child in a class, you will receive an email that says your enrollment is pending. This is simply to ensure that your child has been placed in the correct class. Next, you will receive a confirmation email. You can then make your online payment. Please allow up to 14 days for registration to be processed. A student is considered enrolled when tuition has been received. Payments may be made either through our secure online bill pay system with a credit card or in person with cash. DSOD no longer accepts checks. Classes may not be reserved over the phone. Tuition is due prior to each of our 8-week quarters in September, November, January, and March. Each quarter’s tuition must be paid in full before a student is allowed to participate in the next quarter. Each account must have a Primary Parent assigned to it. The Primary Parent is in charge of the account and as such, understands that he or she is soley responsible for all account charges.
Students should arrive 5 - 15 minutes prior to class and should remain in the lobby until class begins. Parents should remain with younger students until class begins. Students should depart immediately after class.
Family and friends are invited to sit in the classroom and observe the dancers the first week of each month, excluding December and May to accomodate rehearsals. Parents are welcome to view and hear class through the windows of the lobby doors at all times.
